Fausta Squatriti editore d'arte / Fausta Squatriti  art publisher

In 1964 Fausta Squatriti, together with Sergio Tosi, who gave his name to their publishing activities, began to explore the world of graphic art and numbered editions, thus contributing to the creation of a genre of  ‘multiples’ and ‘artists’ books’, which was completely new at the time and went on to become a worldwide success.

The technical solutions adopted to create books and multiples with Man Ray, Max Ernst, Fontana, Manzù, Matta, Gio Pomodoro, Baj, Alviani, Marotta, Pascali, Nevelson, Twombly, Bury, Raysse, Hamilton, Tilson, Jean Tinguely, Niki de Saint-Phalle and many others, were interwoven in a fruitful creative synergy with those that Squatriti sought and used for herown sculptures.

The collaboration with Tosi ended in 1975, and in 1980 Squatriti published limited editions and multiples under her own name, working with Man Ray, Michel Seuphor, Pavel Mansouroff and Anni Albers. Mansouroff and Albers were also included in the portfolio EXACTA, initially created in collaboration with Getulio Alviani. EXACTA was a collection of 54 graphic artworks by the leading artists of international geometric abstraction. It took almost ten years to produce and was Fausta Squatriti’s most important edition.

At the same time, her interest in poetry led her to create MARBLE MEMO - I quaderni di Vacciago, a series of poetry collections she translated with Lina Angioletti from English and French. An artist’s original graphic work accompanied each text. From 1967 on, Squatriti also designed and supervised the creation of many catalogues, books and posters that Alexander Iolas produced in the 1970s for exhibitions in his galleries in New York, Paris, Geneva and Milan, and later also Madrid, Athens and Turin.

In particular, the poster Pechage by Man Ray was a huge success and was widely available in the many poster shops that were fashionable in those years.
