L’osservazione del reale è il punto di partenza della conoscenza, e qui cominciano i guai. Occorre riconoscere, e l’artista lo fa per sua stessa natura e talento, che tra il vedere il circostante e il percepire il veduto come ‘reale’ sta la ‘trasformazione’ attraverso la quale passa la conoscenza, con tutte le sue varianti possibili. Conoscenza che si aggancia al mondo così detto ‘reale’, per espandersi in pensiero astratto, filosofico, spirituale, pragmatico, ispirato, laico, oggettivo, visionario. Il bello è che non esiste una percezione univoca del ‘fenomeno’ e la peculiarità del concetto stesso di ‘realtà’, che si associa a quello di ‘verità’, se osservato, ci induce ad accogliere la pluralità del sapere, anche se lo scontro tra gli individui si compie, tragicamente, proprio sulle diverse certezze circa il detenere la chiave unica del sapere, che esso sia creduto o dimostrato scientificamente. Sentire come pulsione intuitiva, originaria, contro sapere acquisito con il lavoro della mente. Ma la mente è anche intuito, e così si ricomincia da capo. Alla base del mio recente ciclo di lavoro De rerum Natura stanno queste semplici osservazioni delle quali non voglio non tenere conto, avendo da tempo sviluppato la mia ricerca come una costante riflessione, e narrazione.

Observing what is real is the starting point for gaining knowledge, and here the trouble begins. We have to recognise – which the artist does by his or her very nature and talent – that between seeing what surrounds us, and perceiving it as 'real', lies the 'transformation' through which knowledge passes in all its possible variants. Knowledge, which links itself to the so-called 'real' world, in order to expand into thought that is abstract, philosophical, spiritual, pragmatic, inspired, secular, objective and visionary. The marvellous thing is that no single perception of any 'phenomenon' exists, and if we observe the peculiarity of the actual concept of ‘reality’, which we associate with ‘truth’, we have to accept the plurality of knowledge, even if the discord between individuals occurs, tragically, precisely because of all our various certainties about holding the unique key to knowledge, whether it be based on belief or scientifically proven. Sensing and feeling with an intuitive, original instinct, contrary to knowledge acquired by the workings of the mind. But the mind is also intuition, and so we are back at the start. De rerum Natura, my recent cycle of work, is founded on these simple observations, which I do not want to ignore, since for many years my work has been a continual, constant reflection and narration.

Beata solitudo Sola beatitudo

Nell’opera che vado sviluppando dal 2009, ho estremizzato l’esperimento attorno al linguaggio già iniziato negli anni ’90, con la messa in rapporto tra loro di tre elementi che sono parte di linguaggi diversi. Le opere procedono in modo tematico, e a certi temi posso ritornare anche dopo averne sviluppati altri. Ascolta il tuo cuore, città e Beata solitudo riguardano la solitudine degli oggetti, estremizzando una visione escatologica del mondo costruito dall’Uomo. Il linguaggio si articola nella messa in relazione di parti molto diverse tra loro, fotografia, geometria e oggetti già esistenti. Il trio di valori, reale, simbolico, allegorico, compie lo stesso lavoro che è specifico del linguaggio scaturito dalle parole. Le singole parole cambiano il proprio significato secondo il modo in cui sono congiunte, e così si costruisce il senso, il valore del racconto.

In the work I've been developing since 2009, I’ve taken to an extreme the experiment based on the formal approach I began in the 1990s, whereby a relationship is created between three elements from different sources. The works proceed in a thematic way, and I may return to certain themes even after developing others. Ascolta il tuo cuore, città [City, Listen to your Heart] and Beata solitudo are about the loneliness of objects and expand an eschatological vision of the world mankind has created, whereas. The method I use consists in juxtaposing very different media, namely photography, geometry and pre-existing objects.
This trio of values – real, symbolic and allegorical – performs the same task as that specific to language originating from words. The individual words change their meaning according to the way they are combined, thus constructing the sense and value of the story.
